Wisconsin's Great River Road
The House with a Rock in It In 1995, Maxine Anderson was sitting in her kitchen in Fountain City, Wisconsin when a 55-ton boulder loosened itself from the bluff above, barreled down the hillside, and crashed into her bedroom. Maxine and her husband were gone before dark. The boulder, however, is still there. (In 1901, a much smaller chunk of rock plummeted into the house next door, killing its owner while she slept.) After watching carloads of tourists and townsfolk stop and gawk, John and Fran Burt bought the house - furniture, boulder and all. Then they posted a sign reading "Rock in the House" and started charging a dollar for a tour. So far, 50,000 people have stopped.
