Dunlop Introduces Family-Car Tire To Independent Dealers
DALLAS, Feb. 1, 2005 — In its fourth major tire introduction in three months, Dunlop Tires announced today that it has launched a new high-volume all-season passenger-car tire to North America independent dealers here.
The Dunlop SP60 all-season family-car tire replaces the SP40 A/ST, one of Dunlop's top selling tire lines. Available in 27 sizes, the new tire will be manufactured in Tyler, Texas; Fayetteville, N.C.; and Union City, Tenn.
Andy Traicoff, director of Dunlop consumer tire marketing, said, "SP60 gives Dunlop dealers a fresh entry into the broad passenger-tire segment, refreshes their size lineup and better positions them among their competitors. The tire also allows us to drive technology and innovation in a high-volume area."
"New products also will help us revitalize the Dunlop brand in North America. These new tires will make an impact for the company here," Traicoff said.
The SP60 tire features "Traction Web," a pattern of web-like blocks and grooves that enhances traction for confident wet, dry and situational handling, he said. The tread also features large shoulder blocks and a multi-pitch tread design for long tread life and a quiet, comfortable ride.
Ben Hyder, Dunlop account engineer, said Dimensionally Stable Polyester - a Dunlop innovation - delivers a smooth ride in the family car. DSP pre-conditions the polyester ply material via a special manufacturing process that precures and pre-stretches the ply cords.
In addition, Dunlop's SP60 tire features MSI - Mud, Snow, Ice - Traction technology that includes lateral tread grooves, multiple tread block edges and countless cross sipes. The technology provides optimized all-season traction with biting edges that maximize grip for confident control in all weather conditions, without compromising long tread life, Hyder said.
The Dunlop SP60 all-season tire joins three new tires introduced in November: the SP Sport MaxxT ultra-performance tire for luxury sport cars, the Direzza DZ101T ultra-performance tire for sport compact cars and the Grandtrek AT20T tire for luxury and car-based "crossover" SUVs.
