Dunlop Scorches Track With New Direzza Street-Legal Race Tire
LAS VEGAS Nov. 1, 2005 —; A new DOT-legal radial drag tire from Dunlop is designed to improve the launch and “down-track grip” of sport compact racers.
Thanks to the street-legal race tire status, racers even can park their trailers and drive their cars from home to the racetrack so that the adrenaline doesn’t have to stop at the finish line.
The new Dunlop Direzza GRP also has the unique styling that punctuates its great performance. The sidewall, complete with lapping flames, flows into a tread design of directional, sweeping grooves engineered to maximize straight-line performance and track wear.
The tire, available in the most popular race tire sizes, shares tread compound technology with the Direzza drag racing slick. The Direzza GRP’s outstanding traction compound delivers consistent launches and quarter-mile times.
“Targeted directly at the sport-compact crowd who want the competitive edge, the Direzza GRP is a head-turner in a segment that has just about seen it all. Respect for these ‘in-the-know’ drivers comes from GRP, which is heads and shoulders above the competition,” said Mike Pulte, Dunlop’s manager of vehicle personalization.
“As radical as the appearance of the Direzza is, with its flaming sidewall images and unique tread pattern, the technology below the surface is really what will fire up this crowd. This summer, we gave one of our engineers a set of prototypes to try in some real-world environments, and we are still waiting to get them back!” Pulte said.
Direzza GRP, available from authorized race tire distributors, can be used in the NDRA, IDRA, and NHRA Sport Compact series as well as on the street. Sizes include: 205/50R15, 225/50R15, 205/40R17, 225/45R17, 315/30R18, 345/30R18, 275/35R18, 395/35R18, 245/40R18 and 265/40R18.
