It's 40,000 tyres at Bathurst for Dunlop

Dunlop, the official tyre supplier of the V8 Supercar Championship Series, celebrated a major milestone when it supplied its 40,000th tyre to the Glenfords Racing team at Bathurst, Australia, over the weekend.
Glenfords’ driver Marcus Marshall acknowledged Dunlop’s milestone tyre, which was fitted on the right rear of the #20 Ford Falcon during lap 60 when Marcus swapped with driver Jonathon Webb.
“Glenfords Racing is in its first year in this championship and to have this milestone tyre on the car in the biggest race of the year is a great thing for our team,” Marcus Marshall said.
The Dunlop V8 Supercar control tyre is manufactured at the company's specialized racing tyre factory in Nagoya, Japan, where each of the 9,000 tyres provided during the 2006 calendar, take more than three hours to be hand-crafted.
Glenfords team owner, Paul Cruickshank said before the race, “The tyre obviously is a significant achievement for Dunlop, and we know it -- like all their tyres -- will do a great job for us throughout the big day.”
Kelvin O’Reilly, the general manager of TEGA, which represents and polices the V8 Supercar teams said, “The V8 Supercar tyre supplied by Dunlop is required to operate at maximum efficiency in the widest of racing environments.
“Whether it be hot or cold conditions, high speed or tight circuits, the Dunlop tyre has been excellent for our competition use. The logistics of supplying 40,000 tyres to V8 Supercar race teams over the past five years has been enormous. Last year we added the challenge of guaranteeing supply while in China, and in November the new challenge is to fit and supply our race rubber at our first Bahrain event,” O’Reilly added.
According to Kevin Fitzsimons, Dunlop’s V8 Supercar operations manager, “Dunlop has a long legacy with Bathurst, and we are now the official control tyre to the V8 Supercar Series, supplying around 1,100 tyres at each Bathurst 1000.”
