Dunlop Ready For Extreme Conditions Of Bahrain
Dunlop, the official tire supplier to the V8 Supercar Championship Series, is all set to tackle the extreme conditions that lie ahead at the inaugural Desert 400 race in Bahrain, November 23 — 25. Ford Performance Racing Driver, Mark Winterbottom, who is currently in third position in the Championship series, emphasizes the challenge that lies ahead at Bahrain as he hopes to make it three podium finishes in a row.
“Bahrain’s International Circuit, which hosted the first round of the 2006 Formula One season, will set the stage for a great race as drivers battle to secure series points,” Mark said.
“Bahrain has everything you want in a circuit: hairpins, blind corners and fast, long straights so you’ll be seeing some heavy, last-minute braking.
“Every lap will be a hard fought challenge, and I’m expecting the 50C (122 F) on-track temperatures will come into play during the three demanding races totalling 400km,” he said.
Kevin Fitzsimons, Dunlop’s V8 Supercar Operations Manager, believes that Bahrain brings together the smooth, fast track of Shanghai, with the plus 30C (86 F) temperatures of Darwin.
“From all accounts, we’re expecting a hot, smooth and extremely fast circuit in Bahrain’s desert conditions and we’re confident that Dunlop’s control tire will continue to perform at maximum efficiency,” Mr. Fitzsimons said.
“Each racing car will be limited to 20 tires, eight for practice and 12 for racing, which is a total of 620 wheels to be supplied for the next-to-last race of the 2006 calendar.”
The Dunlop V8 Supercar control tire is manufactured at the company's specialized racing tire factory in Nagoya, Japan, where each of the 9,000 tires provided during the 2006 calendar take more than three hours to be hand-crafted.
