Le Mans traditionally starts on Saturdays at 4:00 pm, however this year, on Saturday, June 16th, 2007, the 75th edition of the race began at 3:00 pm to accommodate the French General Election that was held that Sunday. Although unusual, this was not the first time the race's start time has been changed. In 1968, the race was moved to 2:00 pm due to the lateness of the race on the calendar. In 1984, the same situation as 2007 arose when the race was changed to 3:00 pm for the French General Election. In 2006, the scheduled start time was moved to 5:00 pm to coordinate television coverage around the internationally popular FIFA World Cup soccer games.
