Four of the starting 55 teams, and specifically four of the 27 Prototype cars, ran on Dunlop tires at Le Mans. The two teams in the Le Mans Prototype Group 1 were Creation Autosportif Ltd in the number 9 Creation Judd CA07 driven by Jamie Campbell-Walter, Felipe Ortiz and Shinji Nakano, and the Rollcentre Racing team in the number 18 Pescarolo Judd driven by J. LMP1 was favored to provide the outright winner. This category has been dominated by the diesel engine factory teams from Audi and Peugeot. Audi, who have won the race six times in the last seven years (and in 2006 were the first to use a diesel engine car), entered three cars. Peugeot, who returned to Le Mans for the first time since 1994, entered two diesel engine cars.
Dunlop Motorsport took a team of 23 people from their Birmingham, UK headquarters to provide technical service and tire fitting for the race.
