There’s nothing like a good night sleep for the disposition. Just as important, I’ve arrived at Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course, an awesome, fast track. I’ve been here before, and I’m looking forward to driving it. The Dunlop Motorwerks Kleeman Mercedes is primed and ready to perform. But the track folks had a surprise for us, namely a resealing, and the tar was super-slick. I ran a disappointing 40th in the morning, but we were having fun. Dave, Tom and I went for a sightseeing trip between sessions. It was hot and muggy, and we were all a little lethargic, but we pushed on because today we will be back in South Bend for a party.
Our great Canadian friends “eh” Reg, Billy and Reg’s son-in-law Sean, have been talking about some BBQ for days. I can almost taste the smoky goodness. The four-hour drive seems to take much longer, especially when you’re hungry. I can almost taste it, and it doesn’t help that we have to stop at the hotel to drop off the trailer. It’s another 20-minute drive, only to find the restaurant closed for good.
Unfortunately, there’s a Hooters across the street. All I’ll say is the service is good, but I’m not a fan of their food. So we started devising a prank at the post-Cannonball party. We decided to decorate the Racing Owls car in “Just Married” motif. It really was lovely The car was done up in flowers, cans and wedding bells. And best of all, when they entered the bar, all 104 teams yelled, Congratulations! We hope you’ll be happy in your new relationship! It was hilarious.
