Best friend Bruce “Bootsie” MacPherson – not one of my phantom co-drivers – came down to watch us race at Pueblo Motorsports Park along with Brandon from Kleemann, so we had a home-court advantage for a change. The car was awesome, and we drove the wheels off it.
After the event, I drove to Kleemann in Colorado Springs to run the Benz on the dyno. I discovered a few things that would help me down the road. The inter-cooler pump was not working properly and the fuel advance made the gas mixture too lean. The Benz had 347 horsepower at the wheel, but once Brandon, Cory and Jason were finished, I drove away with 450 horsepower and 477 pound-feet at 5,000 feet above sea level. That means the Benz should have another 50-horsepower at sea level.
