Co-drivers are highly overrated. In fact, they can be a nuisance, particularly when they’re snoring as I power the Benz down the highway. At Mid-America Motorplex in Iowa, I have experience driving this track and am looking for some good times. It is raining, and I’ve always faired well in the rain.
Mid-America is a fast track, but a lot of water puddles sprung up to test our skills. With my Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tires, “Bill Der Rainmiester” pulled off an 11th overall, which is my best overall finish. When it rained in 2005, we had a 15th overall finish at Roebling Road in Georgia; last year, we had a 26th overall in rain at Elkhart Lake Road. Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tires deliver great wet-weather traction.
Call me “Der Rainmiester,” if you want, but driving in the rain alone in my Benz allows me to focus on the task at hand. And that’s 1,000 miles of pavement to Miller Motorsport Complex in Utah. It will be a long night.
